NZRT affiliate trusts
There are two affiliate trusts operating in the Wellington
Region.
These community-owned organisations are propagated
through a partnership between the NZRT and local residents'
associations. Because the growth of an affiliate resilience trust
depends on the formation of good networks, initial growth is slow.
However we recognise that developing stronger communities must be an
organic process: there is no 'quick fix' and throwing large amounts of
money in the pot does not speed up the process at all.
All local
resilience trusts are committed to promoting the concept of resilience
within communities. They
achieve this through supporting all races, creeds, ages, and communities of
shared experience through education, training, awareness-raising, and
encouragement to develop attributes of resilience. Furthermore
they provide support for
volunteers and volunteer organisations within the primary area of
operation, who can contribute to improved resilience.
The North
Wellington Resilience Trust covers the area of Newlands, Paparangi, Johnsonville East,
Grenada Village, Horokiwi, Woodridge, Bellevue, Grenada North, and
Lancashire Farm. The first
major project of the NWRT was to undertake community-based research into
the hazardscape of the area. From this they identified the need
for a community ambulance service.
The
Ohariu Resilience Trust covers the area of Ohariu Valley, Churton
Park, Glenside, Johnsonville, and Raroa and is currently conducting research to define their
major project.
